PACHECO’S APRONS
In 2012, Pacheco founded a children’s art class in Jersey City to give kids the opportunity to explore different cultures and mediums. He conceived Pacheco’s Aprons as a means of expanding children’s art knowledge in an interactive, experiential way. The studio-like class is held in a gallery to expose students to the wide range of techniques and practices represented on a rotating basis. Every class concludes with each student providing a positive critique of a fellow classmate’s work in front of the class, giving kids the vocabulary to discuss the work as well as create it. The program culminates in a student gallery show featuring the year’s work. |
CREATINGEach year, projects are inspired by a new theme. Kids are encouraged to use different materials to create their projects, empowering them to use their imaginations and push the boundaries of what’s possible.

sculptingStudents are challenged to create three-dimensional artwork as a part of the program, a practice that helps encourage new modes of thinking.

gallery studyParticipating kids visit current exhibitions to discuss the artwork and practice gallery etiquette. Students engage in a conversation about the techniques used, then translate those techniques to their own pieces.
